Frequently Asked Questions about child sponsorship

Before thinking about a sponsorship/ taking a sponsorship solid information is important. That is why we summarized all the frequently asked questions including the appropriate answers for you.

If your question is not present, do not hesitate to contact us by email: johai@gmx.de.

Does all of my contribution reaches my sponsored child?

Yes, only honorary and non-paid volunteers are working for our association. Thereby we have no administration costs like staff wages, etc. The full amount of charges for journeys to Vietnam are paid by ourselves.

How do you guarantee that the whole contribution is really used for my child's good?

At the beginning of a child sponsorship the parents have to sign an agreement with which they obligate themselves to use the contribution exclusively for their children.
By talking to the children and catching on the life situation our project staff is able to check if the sponsorship contribution fully reaches your child.

How do you take care of the child sponsorships?

Our voluntary assistants in Vietnam know the families and visit them regularly to deliver the sponsorship contribution, to detect which help is necessary and to check the general situation of the children.

How is a family chosen for help/the sponsorship program?

We choose the children in collaboration with different support groups for HIV-infected people in and around Hanoi. They bring us in contact with families who live under really difficult circumstances.

The placement of sponsorships is just one part of our voluntary service. Probably you already recognized on our website that we also care for children in „Hope-Orphanage“ and for HIV-infected children in the children's hospital in Hanoi.

When our voluntary workers visit the hospital they get in contact with several children, for whom we also try to find a sponsor.

How long can a sponsorship last?

There is no minimum or maximum time period for child sponsorship. The sponsorship is not automatically abandoned, it continues as long as you, the godmother/godfather, would want it to.

Does the sponsorship include any judicial obligation to me?

No, you’re not locked into a contract of any kind, so you can cancel the sponsorship at any time. But in case you want to quit: please tell us as soon as possible that we can find a new sponsor for your child.

Is your association religiously motivated?

Our association and all of our voluntary staff aren't religious motivated in any kind.

Are children, who aren't sponsored yet, transitionally supported with association funds?

We support children without a sponsorship with our association funds. We determine if there is an acute demand for help. For example we paid several times the tuition fees for a child.

Can I correspond with my child?

Yes for sure. Your child would love to get letters from you. When you have decided to become a child sponsor we will send you the details of the address of our voluntary workers, who supervise the sponsorship. If required all letters are translated by them – yours to your sponsored child, and vice versa.

If your child wants to send you a letter or a card, we will first scan it, translate it and email it to you. At the end of every year we send you the originals by post. If your child can't write by himself, the parents will write you.

Is it possible to send presents?

Yes, this is possible and desired. The children are really happy about receiving gifts. Packages and parcels can be send to the voluntary staff, who take care of the child's sponsorship. They will deliver the present to the children.

Are special donors for birthday or other festivals (like the Vietnamese New Year) possible?

Special contributions are possible at any time. At the beginning of the following year a contribution receipt is delivered to the godparents by mail.

Does it make sense to write letters is English or should they be written in German and will be translated in Vietnamese afterwards?

If possible the letter should be written in English because our voluntary workers in Vietnam have good English skills and can translate your letter. But it is also possible to write it in German. We will definitely take over your translation.

Can I also send letters to my sponsored child by email?

Yes, that is a fast and low cost possibility to write your child. Just send your letter to the association address: johai@gmx.de. We will deliver it to your sponsored child.

Can I visit my sponsored child in Vietnam?

Yes, you can. Your sponsored child would be very happy about your visit. Please tell us your traveling plans as soon as possible. Our voluntary workers in Vietnam will get in touch with you to discuss all the details.
